About Tangkoko
Bitung is the gateway to Tangkoko Batuangus Nature Reserve, a protected rainforest where you can meet the wide-eyed spectral tarsier, endemic black crested macaques, hornbills, and kingfishers in their natural habitat. Guided treks run at dawn and dusk when the forest is most alive. Bitung itself is a working harbor town with authentic local seafood and views over the Lembeh Strait.
Year-round, but the drier months (May–October) make trekking easier. Wildlife is most active at sunrise and late afternoon.
